Since the Study Session on Social Networking, the EEE-YFU Facebook page is now directly linked to the EEE-YFU twitter account and to the hash-tags of the EEE-YFU Educational Activities.

What does that mean?

It means that every time a tweet with a specific hash-tag is created (e.g. #SEAST), it will automatically go on the EEE-YFU facebook page this being a great way for participants to communicate to the YFU community about activities and, on the other hand, for the YFU community to interact with the participants of the educational activities both in real time.

So, give us a hand to involve even more people in EEE-YFU activities, online and offline - promote the Facebook page. How many 'likes' can we reach by the end of this year?

The Volunteer's Guide to European Representation

Image

The Volunteer's Guide to European Representation is a new tool for volunteers involved in advocacy and representation in youth organisations. The guide was researched and written by a team of volunteers from EEE-YFU's Pool of Representatives , drawing on their experience in national and European Representation work.

The guide serves as a handbook for volunteers who represent EEE-YFU at representation activities and volunteers representing YFU at the national level.

It also contains valuable information that other youth organisations can use for their representations and advocacy trainings.

The guide was funded by a grant from the Directorate of Youth and Sport of the Council of Europe . Download the guide or contact Ozan Sen by This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it for a hard copy.

Youth Organisations demanding independent Youth in Action Programme

On the 23rd of November, the European Commission finally revealed its proposal for the new programme on youth and education, called Erasmus for All , that merges all the current programmes (Life Long Learning , Youth in Action and Erasmus ) into one mega-programme with an increased budget.

The Youth in Action programme is a vital part of EEE-YFU's funding, accounting for more than half of the operating budget, as well as a large number of training activities and projects. In the last few years, many YFU organisations have also used YiA grants to conduct training seminars. The Youth in Action programme also funds European Voluntary Service (EVS) projects which many YFU organisations, including EEE-YFU often run, especially when working with Coloured Glasses.

Unfortunately, under Erasmus for All, some of these projects and types of funding support may no longer be possible as the programme strongly focuses on the needs of the labour market, investing heavily in formal education, policy reform and institutional co-operation. This could mean less support for the non-formal education programmes provided by youth organisations such as EEE-YFU and no long-term support through administrative grants.

Sorely lacking as well is stronger recognition of volunteering and skills gained through non-formal education and informal learning (for example, high school exchanges and training activities related to intercultural learning) in favour of large scale projects, further reducing the importance of youth work and organisations.

In this light, the YFJ has launched a public campaign called 'Where are you going? ' to gather public support for a strong and independent Youth in Action Programme from local level to European level, for better investment in youth. They have also issued a press release for use in the campaign, as well as a nostalgic video depicting today's leaders in their student days. The YiA FAQ contains more information on the process.
