YFUEU

Who we are

EEE-YFU is the umbrella for national YFU organisations in Europe and currently has 29 member organisations . Youth for Understanding is a non-profit youth exchange organisation, providing exchange programmes for 15 to 18 year old students in more than 50 countries world wide . Today YFU can offer almost 60 years of experience in running long-term exchange programmes. The exchanges are based on home-stay programmes throughout the world.  EEE-YFU facilitates co-operation between national YFU organisations and makes sure best practices are shared. Furthermore, EEE-YFU organises educational activities for volunteers and staff, cooperates with partner organisations at the European level and acts as the voice of YFU and promotes YFU aims and values within the European institutions.

EEE-YFU was founded in  1985 by 10 European YFU organisations wishing to create more cooperation within Europe.  15 years before the enlargement of the European Union, YFU volunteers started building intercultural understanding between Eastern and Western Europe by facilitating long-term youth exchange programmes.  By the 25th year of EEE-YFU in 2010 more than 10,000 young Europeans have benefitted from the opportunity of spending a full year in another European country through YFU programmes.  Today YFU organsies around 500 intra-European exchanges between its 29 natonal YFU organisations.

What we do

  • Promote intercultural exchange programmes in Europe

  • Heighten EEE-YFU's visibility and activity on the European level

  • Facilitate cooperation and networking between member organisations

  • Organise trainings for YFU staff and volunteers

  • Provide membership services

  • Facilitate intra-European activities such as seminars, meetings and conferences on various topics, ranging from "Europe and Islam" to "Conflict management" and "Intercultural learning"

More than an exchange!

YFU believes that the exchange experience is an educational event that helps the participant mature in the understanding of other cultures. Before, during and after the exchange experience all participants attend orientation meetings that focus on their personal situation and development as an exchange student. During their stay abroad, the local YFU organisation provides constant support and counselling

Our priority areas are:

  • Intercultural dialogue

  • Volunteerism

  • Recognition of exchange years

  • Non-formal education

  • Individual Pupil Mobility (IPM)

  •
