The YES 2004 took place in Werbellinsee, Germany on June 25-29. The topic was "Young Europeans and Islam". Approximately 400 young people (aged 16 to 19) from 22 countries came together with 40 youth leaders for an exiting seminar. Workshops were led by young Muslims and the participants were also offered an excursion to a mosque in Berlin. The highlight of the seminar was the YES Parliament, where participants represented their host countries while debating over issues related to Islam in Europe. The broad educational aims of the seminar were to give the participants a framework for reflection, to enable them to keep building upon their intercultural experience and to strengthen their European identity. Furthermore, the seminar showed that intercultural experience can continue at home. The seminar gave the participants the chance to identify and understand factors of their personal experiences with the Islamic world and gave them the opportunity to learn more about Islamic cultures.
